Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to first grade! I hope you’re ready for a great year. Below, I have outlined a few important things to help us set off in the right direction.
Homework Policy
All unfinished work should be considered homework and returned the next day. Please check your child’s backpack and homework folder each day. Please review and discuss unfinished work and the homework pages. In addition to the daily homework page, please read at least 20 minutes daily with your child and track it on their reading slip. Homework will be given Monday-Thursday of each week.
Restrooms and Drinks Policy
Students will be walked to the bathroom before each recess and before lunch. The students are encouraged to use this time so they won’t miss any class time. However, if the need arises, they will be allowed a bathroom pass. Sturdy water bottles may be kept on their desk.
Classroom Discipline Plan
The following school-wide rules will be enforced: Be on task, KYHFOOTY (Keep Your Hands Feet and Other Objects To Yourself), and Following Directions the First Time. Please review these rules with your child. There will also be a card pull system used in the classroom, which includes a range of colors that reflect your child’s behavior throughout the day.
Birthdays
Students are welcome to celebrate their birthdays with us. You may send treats for the class if you wish, but treats are NOT required. If you do choose to send treats, please follow the Salt Lake City County Health Department Bureau of Food Protection. Food sent for classroom treats may include any commercially prepared (store-bought) foods such as cookies, cupcakes, candy or chips in sealed packages.
Other Items
Students at Jackling Elementary use cooperative learning methods which may include peer grading and peer feedback on classroom assignments. This type of work will be done in a way to maintain individual student privacy and confidentiality.
